Blossom
Light object from porcelain and veneer.
Small things we notice can lead us down a path of making, where the final outcome remains a surprise. Over several years, he experimented with wood and porcelain while filling countless notebooks with plant sketches. In ‘The Gardener’, he brought one of those drawings to life by combining it with wood bending and ceramic casting techniques he developed himself. The resulting object is a lamp, organic in both appearance and creation. Flower-like lampshades are created by manually rotating porcelain in a cast, producing delicate variations in translucency. The base of the lamp is made by bending wood inside a vacuum sealed bag. This piece is the culmination of different processes, but not a definitive conclusion. Like every fruit, the outcome holds seeds for future ideas, continuing the cycle of making and imagining.
